Your Reason for Being

⏱ 2 hours

Your Reason for Being is a two-hour standalone class built on ikigai, a Japanese word meaning roughly “a reason for being.” Most people don't have a purpose problem — they have a sorting problem, because what they love, what they're good at, what pays, and what the world needs live in four separate parts of their head and never get compared side by side.

One session puts all four on a single page. You'll answer the four core questions with eight or more items each, mark where they repeat — the strongest signal the method produces — and use that overlap to name your zone: Passion, Mission, Profession, or Vocation. From there you pick the Ikigai Path that matches where you're standing (Starting Out, Testing an Idea, or Current Situation) and turn it into a dated Action Steps Plan.

Two AI Tools support the work. AI-1: Ikigai Discovery Guide sorts your messy lists into grouped themes and overlap candidates and asks the follow-up questions you might not think to ask yourself. AI-2: Ikigai Capstone Evaluator checks your finished Ikigai Map and Action Steps Plan and returns a badge readiness verdict.

Finish the class and you'll have two pages: a completed Ikigai Map with your own answers in all four circles, and an Action Steps Plan you can start this week. Reach a READY verdict and you earn the Purpose Finder badge.

Written in plain language throughout, with one running idea: AI is not replacing you here. It sorts the raw material fast so you can spend your time on the judgment calls only you can make.

  3. Session 1: Finding Your Reason for Being

This session takes you from a word you've maybe heard once to a plan with dates on it. You'll answer the four core questions — What do I love to do? What am I good at? What can I be paid for? What does the world need? — with eight or more items each, then mark the repeats, because an item that shows up under three questions is the strongest signal this method produces. Next you'll find your overlap zone (Passion, Mission, Profession, or Vocation) and name the state of dissatisfaction that comes with it, which points straight at the circle you're missing. You'll pick one of the three Ikigai Paths — Starting Out, Testing an Idea, or Current Situation — and complete that worksheet. Then you'll build your Action Steps sheet, pick one of the 10 Rules of Ikigai to practice, and run your finished Ikigai Map and Action Steps Plan through AI-2: Ikigai Capstone Evaluator for a badge readiness verdict.
